Benson Henderson vs Eddie Alvarez set for co-main event in Boston

After news broke over the weekend that Conor McGregor would be fighting Dennis Siver in Boston on January 18th next, today another top-quality bout was added to the card. Lightweight contenders Benson Henderson and Eddie Alvarez will meet in the co-main event of a card which is beginning to shape up nicely.

Alvarez, the former Bellator 155 lbs champion, made his Octagon debut on the same card as McGregor at UFC 178 last month in a tough loss to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and will be desperate to get his first UFC win here. The Philadelphia native certainly has the ability to do it with previous wins over Michael Chandler, Pat Curran and Shinya Aoki on an impressive fight record accumulated all over the globe.

Henderson is another tough fight for Alvarez, though. The former WEC and UFC lightweight champion is coming off of his first non-title fight loss in four years to Rafael dos Anjos and will be desperate to get the W here also. Although he lost his last title to Anthony Pettis, having beaten Frankie Edgar (Twice), Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez in his championship run, Henderson is undoubtedly still one of the top fighters in the world.

The lightweight bout will act as a three round co-main event to the five-round main event of Irishman Conor McGregor and German Dennis Siver in the TD garden in Boston on January, smack bang in the middle of a tremendous run of fight for the world’s premier MMA promotion. With the UFC tonight also adding Ulsterman Norman Parke vs. Jorge Masvidal and Costa Philippou vs. Uriah Hall to the card exciting times certainly lay ahead for all MMA fanatics.
