Cathal Pendred vs Augusto Montano added to UFC 188 in Mexico

The UFC announced tonight that Irishman Cathal Pendred will take on Mexican Augusto Montano at UFC 188 in Mexico City on 13th June. The event will be headlined by Cain Velasquez vs Fabricio Wedrum.

Pendred is 3-0 inside the UFC after picking up a close decision win over Sean Spencer in Boston earlier this year and is now on an 11 fight win streak.

Montano is 15-1 with all of his victories coming inside the distance. He made his UFC debut and defeated Chris Heatherly by TKO in the 1st round at UFC 180.

A lightweight clash between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez was also announced tonight. After years of talk the two will finally meet in the co-main event of UFC 188.

Also added to the card is a clash of former Ultimate Fighter standouts, as “The Tiny Tornado,” Tecia Torres, takes on Angela “Overkill” Hill in what is expected to be a strawweight striking battle.

Tickets for UFC 188, which takes place at the Mexico City Arena, go on sale on March 18.
