Chris Weidman forced to withdraw from UFC 199 bout with Luke Rockhold

Jeremy Botter of FloCombat reported this evening that Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled rematch with Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 in June .

Weidman who defeated Anderson Silva to claim the middleweight strap back in 2013 had a successful stint as champion although he has been no stranger to injuries and having to pull out of this rematch will be a hard blow to his chances of quickly reclaiming the title he lost.

Rockhold put a career best performance when he overcame a staph infection to claim the title back at UFC 194  against Weidman.

There is no replacement opponent at this time but if ‘Jacare’ Souza is ready to go again in 3 weeks following his demolition of Vitor Belfort last weekend he would surely be the top choice.

If ‘Jacare’ isn’t available to step in this could be Michael Bisping’s chance to finally get the UFC title shot that has long escaped him.
