UFC 265: Lewis vs. Gane Results

The interim heavyweight title was on the line when Derrick Lewis and Cyril Gane competed in the UFC 265 main event on Saturday night. Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo took on Pedro Munhoz in the co-main event of the evening. Check out all the highlights and the official results below.

Johnny Munoz got his first win inside the octagon when he beat Jamey Simmons in the bantamweight division. The first round was a back and forth battle between the two Americans. Munhoz secured back control midway in round two and swiftly locked in a rear-naked choke and force the tap from Simmons. Munhoz got briefly wobbled in round one but overall he put on a very well rounded performance.

There has been bone breaks in each of the last four PPV cards and tonight tha gruesome run continued. Melissa Gatto defeated Victoria Leonardo after the doctor was forced to call a halt to the women’s strawweight contest. Leonardo unfortunately broke her arm in round two and the American was unable to continue. Victoria Leonardo will return to Brazil undefeated after winning her UFC debut.

Miles Johns brutalised the legs of Anderson dos Santos in their bantamweight clash. The Brazilian fought through the pain up until round three. Johns landed a beautiful body shot, head shot combination to send his opponent crashing to the canvas in what was a brutal knockout.

Ode Osbourne looked in control of his fight with former Rizin champion Manel Kape in the flyweight division. That was until Kane exploded with a flying knee and follow up with some punches to stop the fight in the latter stages of round one. Kape missed weight coming into this bout and will not be eligible for a bonus.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz lost her fifth fight in a row after she was submitted by Jessica Penne in the women’s strawweight division. Penne picked up her second win on the bounce when she secured an armbar towards the end of round one.

Middleweight veteran Ed Herman put in a gutsy performance enroute to losing a one-sided decision when he crossed paths with Alonzo Menifield. Picking up his forth UFC win, Menifield improved his record to 11-2.

Rafael Fiziev and Bobby Green both put in a fight of the night performance. Fiziev did enough to take home the win on the judges scorecards and won an exciting fight overall by unanimous decision.

Yadong Song and Casey Kenney went to war in the opening bout of the main card. Judges were split with their decision, two out of three judges scored the fight for the Chinese bantamweight which moves Yadong to 17-5 in his career.

Tecia Torres set a pace that Angela Hill struggled to keep up with in their rematch in the strawweight division. Torres picked up the win on the judges scorecard to move to 13-5 and she puts herself right into the title conversation.

Vicente Luque became the first man to beat Michael Chiesa at 170-pounds. Both athletes traded blows and Luque hurt his rival which forced Chiesa to shoot for a takedown. Luque had his back taken and had to fight off a few choke attempts, he managed to reverse position and locked up a beautiful D’Arce choke in round two.

Jose Aldo put on a clinic enroute to a comfortable decision victory in the bantamweight division. The former featherweight champion was the speedier and used counter striking excellently throughout the fight to seal a unanimous decision win on the scorecards.

Ciryl Gane became the heavyweight interim champion after beating Derrick Lewis by knockout in round three of the main event. Gane fought super smart and didn’t get sucked into a brawl. He slowly chopped away at the leg of Lewis wearing down his opponent before he turned up the heat in round three. The Frenchman sealed the fight after dropping Lewis and followed up with heavy ground and pound forcing the ref to call a halt to the fight at the end of round three.
