Following his wonderful first round knockout of Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 last month, Conor McGregor was back on the TV screens Tuesday night. “The Notorious” and his coach John Kavanagh appeared on BT Sport’s “UFC Beyond The Octagon” and, as usual, he had plenty to say.

“I am the number one contender, it’s that simple.” McGregor said when asked about the featherweight division.

“I hold the key to the biggest gate, the biggest attendance, to football stadiums. I’m not holding back, I’m not sitting and waiting. We have spoken with Dana, Lorenzo and Uncle Frank.”

“When you have that backing, you have control.” McGregor went on to say.

“I’m the top dog” McGregor said about his place at 145 lbs, a thought echoed by his coach John Kavanagh who said “Conor is a match for anyone from number ten to one (in the rankings)”

On this weekend’s featherweight title fight McGregor was quite clear in his thoughts; “Chad (Mendes) has focused a lot on his athletic ability. It was his technical ability which let him down in the first fight. I see a second round stoppage (for Aldo).”

Kavanagh was in agreement saying “I don’t think it’s going to be a lot different than the first. Aldo has fought the better opponents since the first fight.” before picking Aldo to win via decision.

That was all before Chad Mendes appeared on the show via video link which led to an epic back and forth.

“Do you even know what wrestling is?” Mendes asked McGregor to which the Dubliner replied “I could rest my balls on your forehead”

“Whether it’s for a title or not, I’m going to beat your ass” Mendes promised.

“I will take that belt from Jose (Aldo) and I’ll come back hunting for your little midget head” McGregor threatened.

McGregor travels to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this weekend for UFC 179 and will have a close eye on the featherweight title fight between Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo from cageside. Should Aldo win, McGregor could be next in line for a shot at the gold early next year.
