Conor McGregor’s rise in the UFC is being back by his countrymen and not just in the vocal sense – as witnessed in Dublin last July when a raucous crowd celebrated his stoppage of Diego Brandao in the first round.

Going into his fight with then #5 ranked Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 in September 2014, €60,000.00 was placed on McGregor to win with only €5,000.00 placed on Poirier, according to Leone Blanche, Head of Communications for Boyle Sports. McGregor won inside two minutes.

Going into his most recent bout with Dennis Siver at UFC Boston in January, McGregor had €50,000.00 gambled on him and backed it up with a second round stoppage of the German. Only €1,000.00 was staked on Siver.

Another interesting statistic is that is the fans are backing McGregor to win in Round 1 or by KO/TKO in his fights with roughly €20k risked on these options.

McGregor faces UFC featherweight champion in July at UFC 189 but the betting is closer. According to Boyle Sports, as of today, €18k has been wagered on the fight – €10k on McGregor, €8k on Aldo.
