Last night the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri was the host to Invicta FC 12.

In the main event Katja Kanaanpää attempted to defend the strawweight title against Livia Renata Souza. The first two rounds were mainly spent scrambling for top position.

In the first round, Souza was able to get body lock on Kanaanpää and went for several rear naked choke attempts. Kanaanpää was able to maintain top position for the most of the third round, Souza remained active and attempted a kneebar. In the fourth round after Kanaanpää spent the first half of the round in top position. Souza was able to lock in a triangle choke and forced Kanaanpää to tap at 3:58. Livia Renata Souza was crowned the new Invicta FC strawweight champion.

The co-main event was a re-match between TUF alum Roxanne Modafferi and Vanessa Porto in a flyweight bout. The first round was a back and forth of striking and body kicks. Porto was able to land a takedown. Modafferi was able to wrap up Porto and went for an armbar just as the round ended. In the second Modafferi went for a spinning kick and Porto landed a hard punch that hurt Modaferri. Porto was able to land a takedown but unable to do anything on the ground. In the third Modafferi was more active on the feet and both women were back and forth with strikes. Late in the round Porto was once again was able to land a takedown on Modafferi. Vanessa Porto def. Roxanne Modafferi by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Featherweights Amanda Bell and Faith Van Duin faced off in an exciting bout. In the first, Bell went for a takedown but Van Duin ended up on top. Van Duin managed to get on the back of Bell but wasn’t unable to stay on. Bell managed to escape several of Van Duin’s armbar attempts. Bell gained top position, landed several hammer fists and went for a leg lock at the end of the first but Van Duin managed to survive the round. At the start of the second Van Duin was able to get a takedown and take the back of Bell and sink in a choke. Van Duin defeated Bell by rear naked choke in Round 2, 0:38

In a bantamweight bout Ediane Gomes faced Raquel Pa’aluhi. Pa’aluhi was able to gain top position early in the first and use her wrestling to keep on top throughout the round. Gomes came out strong in the second, both women swinging leather. Pa’aluhi hurt Gomes with a body shot that dropped Gomes to the mat, Pa’aluhi was unable to capitalise and Gomes survived the round. At the start of the third Gomes was able to get Pa’aluhi to the floor and held top position for the round. Pa’aluhi won by unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Latoya Walker faced TUF alum Peggy Walker in a featherweight bout. They kept the fight standing and Walker dominated Morgan all three rounds. Walker put on a striking clinic and Morgan had nothing to answer with. Walker won by unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
