Aljamain Sterling signs new UFC contract

Aljamain Sterling, one of the hottest free agents in MMA, has finally made a decision over his future. Speaking to Ariel Helwani on TheMMAHour Sterling revealed that he has re-signed with the UFC and will be fighting inside the Octagon for the foreseeable future.

A former collegiate wrestling athlete, Sterling began his MMA career with five wins in 2011 before entering the UFC in 2014 with an 8-0 record.

Since then he has been ultra impressive, winning fights against Cody Gibson, Hugo Viana, Takeya Mizugaki and Johnny Eduardo to earn himself the number five spot in the official UFC rankings.

That, though, wasn’t enough to get Sterling the contract that he desired immediately but, after three months in a free agency period since his last fight, Sterling has now decided to re-up with the UFC.

For many it’s a welcome return to see Sterling fighting the best bantamweights in the world but for those interested in what’s best for the fighters it could be seen as somewhat of a worrying sign that the market for their services still hasn’t grown enough to fulfil what the athletes deserve.
