UFC 249 Event Cancelled

The upcoming UFC 249 event due to take place Saturday April 18th has been cancelled. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news today to ESPN

“Today, we got a call from the highest level you can go at Disney, and the highest level at ESPN … and the powers that be asked me to stand down and not do this event on Saturday,” White said.

Yesterday Rose Namajunas withdrew from the event and it became clear today why that decision was made. Her manager disclosed the reasoning behind the decision on his social media.

Speaking in the brief video clip below Dana White spoke confidently about future events saying plans are underway to hold upcoming shows.

“We will be the first sport back. Fight island is real. It’s a real thing. The infrastructure’s being built right now, and that’s really going to happen. And it will be on ESPN.”

White also spoke to the fighters on his roster and especially those who were set to compete next weekend.

He stated,  “Don’t worry about the financial part of this. You’re going to get the fights on your contract. And I’m going to make things right. The people who were willing to step up and fight next weekend. And I’m going to take care of as many people as I possibly can.”
