UFC Fight Night Waterson vs. Hill Results and Highlights

UFC Apex was host to a strawweight showdown on Saturday night. Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill looked to catapult themselves into title contention. Hill became the first African American female to headline a UFC card.

Main Event

Title aspirations were on the line in the main event tonight between Waterson (18-8) and Angela Hill. Hill (12-9) set a tremendous pace winning round one. Waterson looked to be coming back into the fight in the second round. Hill landed a huge right hand and kept moving forward.

Both fighters traded shot in the opening stages of round three. It was Waterson that secured a takedown and controlled Hill for the remainder of the round. The fourth round was mainly a striking battle. Hill stuffed a couple of takedown form Waterson. Both fighters at this stage putting on a fantastic fight.

These two warriors left it all in the octagon in round five and the judges were called into action. It was Michelle Waterson took home the split decision in what was a razor close fight. Hill will feel disappointed not to have been given the nod. Overall this was a tremendous fight.

In the co-main event lightweight heavy hitters Khama Worthy (16-7) and Ottman Azaitar squared off. Azaitar (13-0) moved forward with reckless abandon and obliterated Worthy in 93 seconds. A huge win for the Moroccan fighter who racked up his twelfth finish. He remains undefeated and an exciting prospect.

Roxanne Modafferi (25-17) took home a win in her fight against Andrea Lee. Roxy won a decision over Lee (11-5) on all three judges scorecards.

UFC veteran Ed Herman took on Mike Rodriguez in a light heavyweight scrap. Rodriguez (11-5) hit Herman with a clean knee in the second round. It was called a low blow by referee Chris Tognoni. Herman (25-14) went on to battle back in round three a secured a kimura victory in a controversial fight.

Billy Quarantillo looked superb when he stopped Kyle Nelson early in the third round of their fight. After a back and forth first round Quarantillo (15-2) turned up the heat in round two. Nelson (13-4) could not recover and was stopped early in round three.

Bobby Green (26-10-1) won a comfortable decision win over Brazilian Alan Patrick. With his win over Patrick (15-2), Green goes 3-0 in what has been a busy year for the lightweight.

Sijara Eubanks beat Julia Avila in a fight that was wild at times. Eubanks (6-4) got the nod over Avila (8-2) on all three judges scorecards.

Kevin Croom pulled off the upset over Roosevelt Roberts. Croom (22-12) took the fight on a few days notice. He hurt Roberts (10-30) and locked in a standing guillotine choke in a dominating performance. In just 31 seconds the fight was over. Unbelievable performance from the debutant.

Alexander Romanov remained undefeated on his UFC debut. Romanov (12-0) dominated a durable Roque Martinez (15-6) by an arm triangle choke.

Brok Weaver (15-6) came in at short notice to fight a catchweight bout against Jalin Turner. Turner (10-5) put in a dominating performance over Weaver. He landed some big shots on the feet and finished by RNC in round two.

Bryan Barberena (15-7) bounced back from a two fight skid. He won a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Ivy (8-4).

Sabina Mazo (9-1) had an incredible come from behind victory in the opening fight against Justine Kish (7-3). She was down on the judges scorecards but managed to get a fantastic finish in the final round. The “Colombian Queen” won her third straight fight in the flyweight division.
