UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs. Magny Preview

A midweek treat for fight fans happens this Wednesday, as UFC continues it’s stay on Fight Island for the second of three events in a week. Welterweights Michael Chiesa (16-4) and Neil Magny (24-7) are set to throw down in the main event.

After his armbar loss to Anthony Pettis in 2018, Michael Chiesa made the the to move from the lightweight division, up to to welterweight, and it proved to be a very worthwhile decision. Since moving to 170 pounds Chiesa has looked impressive, with wins over Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez and former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

That particular fight against dos Anjos, Chiesa looked the best he has ever looked in his career. He loves fighting at welterweight, he has said so himself in the build up to this fight, it turned him into a different fighter. “Maverick” Mike will be eager to build upon his three fight win streak, when he steps in to fight the experienced Neil Magny.

Magny has had a career resurgence himself, following his defeat against Santiago Ponzinibbio in 2018, Magny retired briefly. He returned last year, upon his return he picked up wins over Jingliang Li, Anthony Rocco Martin, and he dominated Robbie Lawlor in his last fight. The “Haitian Sensation” bring bags of energy to the cage, as does Chiesa, so this should be a fast paced, well matched fight.

Warlley Alves (13-4) will go toe-to-toe with highly touted prospect, Mounir Lazzez (10-1) in the welterweight division. Light heavyweight competitors, Ike Villanueva (16-11) and Vinicius Moreira (9-4) are both looking for their first win inside the octagon.

Roxanne Modafferi (25-17), finds herself as the betting underdog once more in the flyweight division, she takes on Brazilian, Viviane Araujo (9-2). Araujo has built up a record of 3-1 inside the UFC and finds herself coming up against the most experienced, highest ranked opponent of her career.

Tyson Nam (20-11-1) and Matt Schnell (14-5) will finally square off in the flyweight division. The fight has been scheduled to happen twice already, it is a fantastic matchup between two quick, athletic powerful guys, this fight will not disappoint.

England’s own Lerone Murphy (9-0-1), wants to keep his undefeated streak alive in the 145-pound division. Murphy will take on experienced Brazilian veteran, Douglas Andrade, who got a unanimous decision win over fellow Brazilian, and former champ, Renan Barao. A cracking bout to kick off the main card.

Double Cage Warriors champion Mason Jones, who has held CW titles at 155 pounds and 170 pounds at the same time in the promotion, will make his highly anticipated UFC debut. The Welshman will step in to fight Mike Davis in the lightweight division. Mason is an explosive fighter and it would be very worthwhile tuning in to what his fight on the prelims.
