Number two ranked bantamweight Cory Sandhagen took on former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 32. Check out all the highlights and official results below.
Diana Belbita and Hannah Goldy opened up the card with an exciting back and forth battle in the strawweight division. With the majority of the fight playing out on the feet it was Belbita who came out on top winning a unanimous decision. The Romanian born, Canadian resident moves to 14-3 and picked up her first UFC win.
Sijara Eubanks looked amazing as she dominated Elise Reed and picked up a TKO finish in round one of their flyweight contest. Eubanks was able to initiate the takedown from the off, Reed was unable to shake off the The Ultimate Fighter 26 finalist who landed a big elbow caused huge damage to Reed’s eye. Eubanks moves to 7-6 and snapped a two-fight skid.
Julio Arce picked up an impressive TKO win against Andre Ewell in the bantamweight division. Arce wobbled his opponant in round two and followed up with a flurry of punches which forced referee Chris Tognoni to call a halt to the action. The win moves the American to 17-4.
Mickey Gall got back into the win column and moved to 7-3 in his professional career. The welterweight prospect locked in a rear-naked-choke after hurting Jordan Williams early in round one enroute to picking up his fifth first round stoppage.
Nassourdine Imavov put the whole middleweight division on notice when he dismantled Ian Heinisch in round two of their clash. The Russian born, French based fighter landed some heavy shots which crumbled Heinisch, Imavov pounced on his rival and landed some ground and pound to improve his record to 10-3.
Brendan Allen handed Punahele Soriano the first loss of his carrer when he won a unanimous decision. Allen moves to 17-4 in the middleweight division, he went on to call out the winner Sean Strikland or Uriah Hall who fight on the main event of next week’s card.
The fight between Adrian Yanez and Randy Costa lived upto all the hype. Costa won the first round and showcased slick striking and a solid jab. Yanez rallyed in the second round showing some fantasic boxing and he hurt Costa to the body before landing a big uppercut and finished the fight with a flurry. That makes it three finishes in his first three fights for Yanez who climbs to 14-3.
Maycee Barber had lost her last two fights heading into this fights with Miranda Maverick in the flyweight division. In what was a close fight it was Barber who came out on top on the judges scorecards. Many thought, including myself, that Maverick had done enough to win the fight and the result caused a lot of stir online. Barber moves to 9-3.
Darren Elkins won in typical fashion when he took on Darrick Minner in the featherweight division. Minner dominated Elkins in the first round and was close to finishing the fight on a couple of occasions. Elkins survived and bounced back fantastically in round two to move to 26-9 and picked up his second win in a row.
Raulian Paiva and Kyler Phillips put on an entertaining fight in the co-main event. Phillips started strong and almost finished the fight at the very end of round one. Paiva recovered and got himself back into the fight and went on to win rounds two and three. Many thought that the first round was a 10-8 , and the correct result should have been a draw. Two out of the three judges didn’t see it that way and award the Brazilian with the majority decision.
The main event also lived upto expectations when Cory Sandhagen went up against TJ Dillashaw. In what was a really close fight that could of went either way it was the former champion Dillashaw came out on top in a split decision. Sandhagen was disapointed not to get the decision, he cut open the right eye of Dillashaw and popped his rival’s knee with a leg lock in round one. Dillashaw showed that he still has that champion mentality to persevere and get the nod. A title shot against the winner of Yan/Sterling fight will be next in line for the former champ.
