Masvidal and Edwards set for UFC 269

Jorge Masvidal (35-15) and Leon Edwards (19-3) will finally settle their long time rivalry on December 11 at UFC 269 in a three-round welterweight showdown.

Ariel Helwani first broke the news early Monday morning that both fighters had verbally agreed to meet on the main card of UFC 269. Later on, ESPN correspondent Brett Okamoto confirmed those rumours after speaking with Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell on Monday afternoon.

This will be the final chapter in what has been a big rivalry which started all the way back in 2019 at a UFC London event. Masvidal was doing his post-fight interview after beating Darren Till in the main event. Leon Edwards, who was also victorious over Gunnar Nelson in the co-main event, walked by and exchanged words with “Gamebread”, to which Masvidal took exception to. Masvidal got into Edwards face and landed a swift combination before the pair were separated. The incident gave birth to the famous statement ‘Three piece and a soda’, now the wait is over as these top-tier welterweights will finally get the chance to settle the score.

Both fighters have since confirmed the new on social media. Leon Edwards picked up a unanimous decision victory over Nate Diaz in his last outing at UFC 261 in July. Masvidal suffered a knockout loss to champion Kamaru Usman when he challenged for the 170-pound title in his last trip to the octagon which was also at UFC 261.
