7 Reasons to Start Watching MMA and UFC

MMA has become one of the most watched and popular sports on the planet. The UFC has exploded as the leading organization for the sport and has brought it into the homes of millions of new fans.

However, if you haven’t had the chance to watch a PPV yet, or you’re tempted when you look at the great MMA odds online, here are seven reasons why you should start watching MMA right now.

Equal Competition

One of the best aspects of MMA is how equal the competition is. While this is due to the obvious weight classes, the mix of styles and techniques ensures no fighter has a superior advantage over the other.

A wrestling expert will have their strengths against a Taekwondo practitioner, for example, but might not be as good with their hands or kicks. This means that almost all fights are entirely equal.

In addition, this means the favorite isn’t always the one who wins. There are very few fighters who have gone their whole careers without losing, with many of the favorites suffering one, if not more losses.

Year-Round Action

Unlike other sports that have seasons and leagues, MMA is on all year. The UFC, and other promotions, hold PPVs every month, as well as smaller events every few weeks. This means that no matter what time of year it is, there are fights to watch.

You can purchase or watch almost all PPVs, and if you want to take it a step further and purchase the UFC Fight Pass. This service gives you access to all the fights and backstage action you want.

The Personalities

One of the biggest draws to MMA, especially the UFC, is the personalities. Fighters such as Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, Paddy Pimblett, and many others have risen to fame not only for their skill in the cage but their personalities.

They are brash, cocky, funny, and are far more than just “meatheads,” as many non-fans think they are. These personalities have allowed many avid or casual fans to connect with the fighters, making their bouts far more enjoyable.

Intensity

Unlike boxing, or even the WWE, the intensity of MMA fights is almost unmatched. Regular contests are three, 5-minute rounds, with championship fights being five, 5-minute rounds. This means that the action is condensed into a few minutes.

There are very rarely any fights that have little to no action, with undercard and debut fights having as much excitement and action as the main event.

Multiple Styles

As mentioned already, MMA brings multiple styles from across the fighting world together. You can experience experts in Ju Jitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and even more unusual styles such as Krav Maga and Sambo.

This makes fights completely unpredictable and exciting. You never know which style is going to come out on top; therefore, you can never really know which fighter is going to win, either.

Female Fighters

Many promotions, especially the UFC, have done a lot to push female fighters into the spotlight. Many sports don’t make as much effort with their female outfits as they do with their male ones.

However, the UFC not only features female bouts regularly but has gone as far as to make them main events. Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm were the main events at UFC 193; the fight ended up not only being one of the best of all time but also saw Holm shock the world by knocking Rowdy out.

Rousey is also widely recognized as the woman that brought female fighters to the fore. Before then, many saw female fighting as a gimmick, but Rousey and others proved women could fight just as well as men.

You Can Do It Too

Finally, MMA is great because it is something you can do too. This doesn’t mean you can step into the cage, but MMA is a fantastic way to get fit and learn self-defense. MMA promotions have exposed many people to the sport and have encouraged them to start fighting themselves.

While you may not be able to step into a cage, there are MMA gyms around the globe now that offer fighting and fitness classes for beginners or seasoned fighters looking to change disciplines.
