Sage Northcutt Talks Mental Tests, Emotions Ahead Of Return at ONE Fight Night 10

After waiting almost four years to get back into action, Sage Northcutt’s return to ONE Championship is now less than a month away.

“Super” will end his break from competition when The Home of Martial Arts ventures to the U.S. for the first time on Saturday, 6th May, for ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III.

Northcutt is set to meet promising star Ahmed Mujtaba in a high-stakes lightweight battle on the historic event’s main card at Denver, Colorado’s 1stBank Center.

When the California kid debuted back in 2019, it’s no secret that his much-anticipated battle with Cosmo Alexandre went any way but his.

The devastating 30-second KO he suffered at the hands of the Brazilian veteran forced “Super” into an expectedly long stint away from the Circle that was filled with challenges and setbacks.
But having grown up in martial arts and won multiple prizes in Karate, competition is never far from Northcutt’s mind. And the four-year long battle back to where he wants to be only served as a test for his mettle.

The American star is admittedly nervous ahead of his bout with Mujtaba on May 6th, but he is confident that that will quickly dissipate once he makes the walk.

“I have competed a lot since a very young age, fought in 14 professional fights. I’m only 26 right now, but I came to the sport very young,” Northcutt said.

“Having some time off, everybody’s got nerves. If you don’t, that’s kind of different. But everybody’s got nerves when they go into a fight. It doesn’t mean you’re nervous to fight. But you get butterflies. You get excited, and you get amped up. So, of course, I’ll be feeling all those things.”

“Super’s” task at ONE’s debut U.S. event is far from a straightforward one. “Wolverine” has been building a reputation for himself in ONE’s lightweight division in Northcutt’s absence. And he is now undeniably one of the division’s rising stars.

Mujtaba scored his second first-round stoppage in a row when he finished Brazil’s Abraao Amorim at ONE 163 last November, and he’ll be eager to earn his third when he takes on Northcutt.

All eyes will be on the hometown hero when he takes to the Circle at ONE Fight Night 10, and the American star is confident his determination will pay dividends in the end.

“Anybody would say they want a finish, that’s for sure,” Northcutt stated.

“Whether it’s a submission, whether it’s ground-and-pound, or it’s a knockout. Whatever it is, everybody wants a finish. That would be the ideal way. But, you know, I’m training for any aspect out there. So, that way, I’m prepared.”
