Leon Hill vs Tommy Hawthorn added to CW172

Leon Hill (6-2) and Tommy Hawthorn (5-1) are set to compete in a lightweight contest next month at Cage Warriors 172 in Newcastle’s Vertu Motors Arena on 25th May. Sources with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the news to SevereMMA.com.

Team KF’s Hill will be looking to get back to winning ways. “The Professional” was on an impressive tear of 6 consecutive finishes in the space of 13 months across 2022 and 2023. However, in his last fight at Cage Warriors 161 in Dublin, the Drogheda native succumbed to a first-round submission defeat at the hands of undefeated pro Ieuan Davies.

Hill will welcome Cage Warriors newcomer Tommy Hawthorn to the promotion. Hawthorn comes from a family of Bradford wrestling royalty. His father, Jimmy, is a legendary wrestling coach in Bradford, and won silver at the World Masters wrestling championship in 2007. Both Tommy and his brother, Brett, have competed in the Commonwealth Games, and both won world titles in catch wrestling in 2022. Hawthorn is riding a two-fight finish streak into his Cage Warriors debut, and with 4 KOs and 1 submission to his name, Hawthorn is yet to see the judges’ scorecards in his MMA career.

Cage Warriors 172 is headlined by a vacant featherweight world title fight between Harry Hardwick and Zafar Mohsen.
