UFC 316 – Severe MMA Staff Predictions

On Saturday night, the UFC brings a brace of bantamweight title bouts to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

In the main event, Georgian firecracker and UFC’s 135lbs male champion, Merab Dvalishvili, squares off for round six against old foe and former champion, Sean O’Malley. A rematch less than a year in the making, the pair battled for 25 minutes in Las Vegas at UFC 306, culminating in a crowning moment for “The Machine.” While there may have been controversy in the eyes of O’Malley’s “Suga State Athletic Commission”, the non-fictitious and actually sanctioned commission of Nevada upheld the result. Still, the pair collide once again.

While the co-main event is second on the podium, it is dripping with gold. Two-time (and reigning) UFC women’s 135lbs champion and former TUF winner, Juliana Pena, aims for her first successful title defense when she faces down two-time Olympic gold medalist and former PFL champion, Kayla Harrison. Unlike their male bantamweight counterparts, the only battle the outspoken “Venezuelan Vixen” and celebrated ATT judoka have engaged in to date is a war of words, but the talking ends when the cage door closes on Saturday night.
