After much speculation and many rumours, including the possibility of Dallas Cowboy Stadium, the date and location for the UFC featherweight championship unification has now been set as champion Jose Aldo and interim champion Conor McGregor will meet at UFC 194 on December 12th, 2015 in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC President Dana White announced the news to YahooSports.

Earlier tonight BleacherReport’s Jeremy Botter tweeted that UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum vs former champion Cain Velasquez would serve as the co-main event although this is not confirmed yet.

Initially, the pair were due to meet on July 11th last but a rib injury to Aldo put pay to that. Instead, McGregor fought three time contender Chad Mendes for the interim strap and knocked out the American wrestling stand-out late in the second round to extend his unbeaten run to fourteen in a row.

Like with McGregor, Chad Mendes is also the last man to step into the ring against Aldo as their five round war ended in a unanimous decision win for the Brazilian. That was an eighteenth consecutive win for Aldo but, by the time December 12th comes around, it will be 13 months since the featherweight champion last fought.

With two belts being unified, McGregor’s drawing power and the long standing feud between the pair this one has all the makings of the biggest fight in UFC history. Let’s just hope it can stay together this time!
