Following an impressive first round technical knockout of Diego Brandao in the packed 02 arena in Dublin last Saturday night, Conor McGregor already has his next dance partner.

The UFC today confirmed Dublin’s McGregor will fight on the undercard of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 178 on 27th September against American Dustin Poirier.

Poirier, who trains out of American Top Team, has won his last three fights in a row following a decision loss to Cub Swanson early last year. Akira Corassani, Erik Koch and, McGregor’s last victim, Diego Brandao were his opponents.

Similarly, McGregor has been victorious his last three fights since signing for the UFC. The Dubliner has won his last eleven on the bounce – only going the distance once picking up the Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight titles along the way.

Both fighters verbally agreed to the bout earlier this evening.

The fight with Poirier could be considered the first test for McGregor against elite, world class competition as Poirier is ranked number 6. Should he come through, a title shot isn’t likely to be more than one fight away.
