More bad news for Anderson Silva as reports from last week that a second drug test has come back positive were confirmed today.

After failing an initial test for two steroids taken on January 9th, Silva passed another test taken on January 19th but has now flunked for a sample given on on fight fight, January 31st.

According to MMAJunkie‘s Steven Morocco, Silva tested positive for Oxazepam and Temazepam, two Benzodiazepines in his post-fight test and the pre-fight test found drostanolone metabolites.

Benzodiazepines possess sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, and amnesic actions, which are useful in a variety of indications such as alcohol dependence, seizures, anxiety, panic, agitation, and insomnia.

Silva fought Nick Diaz in his comeback from a broken leg on January 31st but the results of the tests taken before the fight did not emerge until the week after due to the length of time it takes the lab to process the specimens. The fight night blood tests have even taken longer. Diaz also failed for having marijuana in his system on fight night urinalysis.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has scheduled a hearing for Las Vegas today where Silva will likely be given a temporary suspension before another hearing at a later date decides his fate.

The failure comes the week after former UFC title challenger Jon Fitch and current UFC welterweight contender Hector Lombard also failed drug tests.
