Anthony Pettis has been forced out of his July 25th fight against Myles Jury after injuring his elbow.

FOX Sports have announced that Pettis (18-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who lost his 155-pound strap to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 in March and was scheduled to make his return to the cage at UFC on FOX 16, is set to go under the knife next week.

Edson Barboza, best known for his sensational wheel kick knockout of Terry Etim at UFC 142, has stepped in to replace “Showtime”. The No. 11 ranked Barboza (15-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) was last in action in February of this year when he dropped a unanimous decision to the surging Michael Johnson. Prior to that, the Brazilian had won five of his last six fights with victories over the likes of Danny Castillo, Bobby Green, and Evan Dunham.

Jury (15-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), a TUF 15 veteran, held an impressive undefeated 15-0 record before falling to defeat at the hands of Donald Cerrone in a lacklustre performance at UFC 182 in January.

MMAFighting.com has reported that the fight between Jury and Barboza has been relegated from the co-main event slot, and that a women’s bantamweight match-up between Miesha Tate and Jessica Eye will serve as the co-headliner instead.

UFC on FOX 16, which takes place at the United Center in Chicago, will be headlined by the much anticipated – and much postponed – 135-pound title rematch between current holder T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Renan Barao.
