Reports suggest that Cage Warriors Welterweight Champion Ian “The Future” Garry (7-0) has become Ireland’s latest UFC fighter.

TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter reported the news early on Friday morning that Garry had been added to the welterweight rankings pool of the UFC website, and Garry later announced his signing on Instagram.

The undefeated Dubliner turned pro in 2019, defeating top Irish prospect James Sheehan in his debut at Cage Warriors 101. Garry has since amassed an impeccable 7-0 record under the Cage Warriors promotional banner. “The Future” racked up five finishes in a row against Matteo Ceglia, Mateusz Figlak, George McManus, Lawrence Tracey, and former UFC competitor Rostem Akman.

That win over Akman advanced Garry to the final of the Cage Warriors welterweight tournament, setting up a championship showdown versus Jack Grant at Cage Warriors 125. Garry outclassed the highly-respected Grant in a one-sided unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards. Just 2 years after turning pro, the Portmarnock native had secured the coveted Cage Warriors belt, punching his ticket to the big show.

The 23-year old has stated since day one that his signing with the UFC would be “inevitable,” and on Friday it appears that Garry’s bold prediction has been validated. There has been no conformation of the signing from the UFC as of yet, though an official announcement from the promotion is expected to be imminent. It is unclear at this stage when the Dublin man will make his debut, and there is no indication as of yet who Garry might face off against in his debut.
