Andreeas Binder Eyes UFC Ahead of Rostam Akman Fight

SBG Charlestown welterweight Andreeas Binder (4-1) will strap on the 4oz gloves once more as he is set to take on former UFC competitor Rostam Akman (6-3) at Cage Fight Series on April 9th. The event will be streamed worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.

After his Superior Challenge fight fell through, the Romanian born, Galway native recently took part in a Muay Thai bout an won via technical knockout. Binder will now trade the ring and 12oz gloves to return to the cage where he feels most at home.

“I am very excited to be back competing in Mixed Martial Arts,” Andreeas said. “Especially in a promotion that is being shown on UFC Fight Pass where I can showcase my skills worldwide. Cage Fight Series are producing some great matchups, and this fight is a great matchup for me.”

“It excites me to be going in there with a former UFC fighter. It gives me the chance to test my skills against a guy who has fought at the UFC level. Now I can show everyone the skill-level that I possess and I plan to show the world exactly that I should be fighting at this level.”

The man standing across from Binder will be Swedish based fighter, Rostam Akman. In 2019, Akman had a short stint in the UFC’s welterweight division. Two losses against Sergey Khandozhko and Jake Matthews saw Akman get released from the world’s leading MMA organisation.

Akman was last seen in Cage Warriors where he was brutally knocked out against Ian Garry, who Binder holds a win over in the amatuer ranks. Garry used that win as a stepping stone to forge his path into the UFC, and Binder will be looking to do exactly the same on April 9th.

“I win against Akman will open a lot of doors for me. He has fought at the highest level in the UFC. When I go out and beat a former UFC fighter it will open a lot of doors for me. I’m only 25-years old, I’m just about hitting my peak right now and I want to be competing in the UFC by the end of 2022.”

“It’s a great matchup for both of us, Rostem is looking to get back to the UFC and I’m also looking for that opportunity. Both of us are going out there with a point to prove. In the grappling department we match up quite evenly but I do believe that my striking will be too much for him to handle. Whoever implement their gameplans better on the night will be victorious.

“Nobody likes a boring fighter. Every fight that I have had so far has been a finish and I will be looking to do the same on April 9th against Rostem. I will be prepared for everything on the night, if the fight goes all three rounds, I’m still confident that I will be the one getting my hand raised.”
