Duffy And Mulpeter Fly The Flag For Irish MMA This Saturday

After a jam-packed schedule for Irish MMA fighters over the last few months, there is even more action this upcoming weekend as Philip Mulpeter and Joseph Duffy are both in action at Cage Warriors 74. The event will be held at the Copper Box in London’s Olympic village and will see both Irishmen looking to move their way up the rankings towards the CWFC title.

For Mulpeter, Tom Breese will be the assignment. The Englishman is a long time stand-out on the European scene after going undefeated as an amateur and winning six fights in a row as a professional. His last outing was against Warren Kee way back in 2012 as chronic injury problems have put him on the sidelines ever since. Mulpeter isn’t an easy comeback fight, though, as he also makes a return to competition following the cancellation of his August fight at CWFC 70 against Jake Bostwick when his opponent failed to make weight. The Laoisman has amassed a 7-4 record as a pro and will be looking to carry on the tremendous 2014 SBG form in a bout which has fight of the night written all over it.

Joseph Duffy will also be looking for a bonus in his second fight back to the cage against tough Frenchman Julien Boussuge. After beating the likes of UFC stand outs Conor McGregor and Norman Parke in his early MMA career, Duffy spent three years as a professional boxer and worked his way to a 7-0 record before changing back to the 4oz gloves. His return mixed martial arts fight, against another Frenchman Damien Lapilus, saw Duffy get an impressive, if slightly rusty, win to move to 11-1 in front of the crowd in Dublin’s Helix Arena last August. On Saturday, Duffy should be better and will certainly need to be against a man who has won ten out of thirteen and his last three on the spin. The Donegal native is always exciting to watch and, in his adopted home city, should have the crowd on his side.

Cage Warriors 74 will take place in the Copper Box Arena, London this Saturday and will be headlined by the welterweight title fight between Niclas Dalby and Monsen Bahari with Pannie Kianzad and Eeva Siiskonen battling it out for the women’s bantamweight title in the first segment of a two-part main card. The first bout gets under way around 5pm with Antrim’s Steve McCombe stepping in as a late replacement against Nathaniel Wood on the undercard. Live coverage of the main card, featuring both Mulpeter and Duffy, will be broadcast for Irish viewers on Setanta Ireland. Check out the rest of the scheduled fights below.
